Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings (29-10-2-1) got a hat-trick from Dylan Guenther and a second consecutive shutout from Sebastian Cossa as they upended the Lethbridge Hurricanes (15-18-2-1) by a 6-0 score on Sunday afternoon at Rogers Place.

After scoring seven goals the night previous, the Oil Kings were able to pick up right where they left off as just 1:39 into the game, Guenther notched his team-leading 23rd goal of the year after taking a pass from Carter Souch in the left-wing circle where he roofed a shot over the shoulder of Lethbridge netminder Jared Picklyk.

The Oil Kings added to their lead late in the first period after Jalen Luypen was able to jump on a turned over puck in the right-circle of the Hurricanes zone and sneak a quick shot between the arm and body of Picklyk to send Edmonton to the intermission ahead 2-0.

In the second period, the Oil Kings added to their lead 5:19 in as another Lethbridge turnover ended up in the back of their net and this time it was Shea Van Olm taking advantage as he sniped a wrist shot past the outstretched blocker of Picklyk from right-circle for his fourth goal of the season.

At 16:38 of the middle stanza, Guenther tacked on his second of the afternoon after he took a pass in front of the Hurricanes net from Luke Prokop and slammed home his 24th goal of the season giving the Oil Kings a 4-0 lead after forty minutes of play.

Souch staked Edmonton to a five-goal advantage on a power play just past the midway mark of the third period as he crashed hard to the Lethbridge net and banked home a rebound with his foot off a Guenther.

Guenther completed his hat-trick 28 seconds later on another Edmonton power play as he roofed a wrist shot short-side over the shoulder of Picklyk from the left-circle to cap the evening.

Cossa made 24 saves for his league-leading fourth shutout and 21st win of the season, while Picklyk turned aside 20 of the 26 shots flung his way. The Oil Kings went two-for-five on the power play, the Hurricanes were zero-for-eight.
