The Americans took on the Chiefs in Spokane tonight. They stayed close the entire game, tying it twice, but were unable to find a go-ahead goal, falling 5-4.

Nick McCarry opened scoring tonight for the Chiefs with 3:18 remaining in the first period. Seconds before the first intermission, Blake Swetlikoff took a tripping penalty putting the Americans on the power play to start the next period.

Tri-City didn't score with the man-advantage but continued to stay in possession of the puck after the power play expired and scored seconds later to tie the game at one. Tyson Greenway sent a pass from the corner to the front of the net where Ethan Ernst buried it on Chiefs goaltender Mason Beaupit.

Spokane took back the lead two minutes later with a goal from Logan Cunningham. Later in the second period, Spokane's Cade Hayes took a tripping penalty and thirty seconds later Tri-City's Tyson Greenway took a holding penalty to put both teams down a player. Raegan Wiles scored while playing four-on-four to extend Spokane's lead to 3-1. Five seconds after Spokane's penalty expired, Petr Moravec scored a short handed goal to put the Americans back within one. The goal was set up by Ian Ferguson who circled the zone and passed to the low slot area where Moravec scored with a one-timer.

The score held with a 3-2 Spokane lead into the final frame.

5:40 into the third period, Sam Huo launched a hard wrist shot short-side over the blocker of Beaupit tying the game for Tri-City.

Spokane followed with two more goals in just over a minute and a half span to once again take a multi-goal lead over the Americans. The goals came from Chase Bertholet and Raegan Wiles, his second of the night.

With 7:39 remaining in the game, Sam Huo once again put the Americans within one as he sniped another hard shot from the high slot past Beaupit. Tri-City continued battling through the final seconds of the game but was unable to come up with another tying goal.

Tomas Suchanek played in net for the Americans, turning aside 31 of 36 shots faced.

Score: 5-4 Spokane

Shots: 36-24 Spokane

The Americans will wrap up a three-in-three weekend tomorrow as they take on the Winterhawks in Portland at 5:00 pm.
