Come back soon!
Tonight's game is the first of two straight games against the Americans - with the next coming on Friday, Feb. 4 - and the first of eight straight against either Tri-City or Spokane. That's a run that could excite Hawks fans given the teams' relative places in the standings, but the Americans have been anything but an easy out this season.
Portland has won just three of six against the Ams this year, and they continue to trouble the other teams atop the U.S. Division as well. As the Hawks look to close out this weekend set with another victory, keeping the ego in check is crucial.
O-B heating up
Jack O'Brien notched a goal and two assists last night, kickstarting the team's comeback from 3-0 down to top Seattle 6-5 in a shootout. O'Brien's outburst marked his third straight multi-point game, and the Denver, Colo. native has goals in each of those. Can he make it four straight with another tally tonight?
With Jaydon Dureau, Dawson Pasternak and Robbie Fromm-Delorme still out of the lineup, players like O'Brien, Josh Zakreski, Luke Schelter and Aidan Litke have stepped into larger roles to help the team maintain its winning ways. Look for them to continue their strong play as the team caps off a grueling stretch of games tonight.
Ending January right
The month of January has turned into a run of three consecutive three-in-three weekends, with Portland playing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday both home and away during each of the last three weeks. Tonight caps off that stretch, and the Hawks couldn't ask for a better showing during such a daunting part of the schedule.
With a 7-0-0-1 record so far and three straight wins over Seattle, who ranks closest to Portland in the U.S. Division standings, the Winterhawks have found new confidence as we head down the stretch in the regular season. You can bet they'll be looking for another W as they wrap up the busy January slate tonight.
