River Cats End Bees Winning Streak

The Salt Lake Bees could not hold on to a three run lead, as the Sacramento River Cats rallied for a 10-7 win on Tuesday night in the series opener. The game was tied at 1-1 when former Bingham High and BYU star Brennon Lund led off the third with his third home run of the season.

Later in the inning, Justin Bour delivered an RBI single and Jose Rojas came through with a sacrifice fly to give the Bees a 4-1 lead. Sacramento bounced back with six runs, two unearned, in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth to take a 9-4 lead. Salt Lake would score single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to pull to within two, but that was as close as they would get, as their four game winning streak comes to an end.

Salt Lake starter Dillon Peters (1-1) took the loss, as he lasted just two and two-third innings and allowed seven runs, five earned, on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Zac Ryan would make his Triple-A debut and work a scoreless two innings with three strikeouts and one walk. Matt Thaiss led the Bees' offense with three hits, including his fourth homer of the season, and one run batted in, while Rojas went 1 for 2 with two walks and one RBI. Despite the loss, Salt Lake has still won nine of its last eleven games.
