Rivalry Picks Up As Devils Knock Off Phantoms

Albany Devils News Release
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The rivalry between the Albany Devils and the Adirondack Phantom has just intensified. In the ninth meeting between the two clubs, the Devils claimed a 2-1 victory at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The team's combined for a total of 130 penalty minutes in a contest that was the sixth one-goal game between the two teams.
Tim Sestito had the game-winner at 4:21 of the third period to improve Albany's record to 26-34-1-3 and 5-4 against Adirondack in the Time Warner Cable Cup series. The Phantoms go to 21-33-3-6 with the loss.
"We take pride in how we play and they do to," Sestito said. "We still want to win the game. When you play a team 12 times it's just chippie and there is bad blood. You just get sick of seeing the other guys. It's just hockey; it's a physical game."
The play of Adirondack's Zach Rinaldo set the tone early. He supplied 28 penalty minutes and a game misconduct within the first 17:19 of the game. The first period ended with the team's combining for 64 penalty minutes. In the second, the teams had upped that total to 130 minutes. There were no penalties called in the third period.
Louis Robitaille assisted on Sestito's winner, which found the upper left corner. It was Sestito's fourth goal of the season.
"It just kind of fumbled around," Sestito said. "I think the D tried to clear it and it just went off my shin pads. It kind of sat down for me and I got it at the bottom of the circle and put a shot on net. It just had eyes and went in."
In the first, Chad Wiseman picked up right where he left off on Wednesday. Coming off a four-goal performance in the final 9:35 against Bridgeport, Wiseman netted the first goal of the game. Jay Leach made a touch pass from the bottom right slot and found Wiseman for an easy one-time, empty net goal at 4:22. Steve Zalewski also assisted on the tally, which was Wiseman's fifth in 13:57 of play.
The Phantoms lone goal came while shorthanded off the stick of Eric Wellwood at 18:52 of the second. Rob Bordson's individual effort led to the goal.
Mike McKenna earned his third-straight win by making 25 stops. He is now 11-16-0 on the season. Johan Buckland was handed the loss with 18 saves.
Next up, the Devils welcome the Springfield Falcons to the Times Union Center for a 5 p.m. contest. The team is celebrating St. Patrick's Day along with the Capital Region and fans can get a $12 ticket when they show up at the TUC box office. As always, tickets can be purchased at the Times Union Center Box Office or at any ticket master outlet. Fans can also get tickets by dialing 800-745-3000 or online at ticketmaster.com.
