amilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters 4-2 on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. J.T. Wyman had a goal and an assist for the Bulldogs but Cameron Gaunce notched a goal and two assists to lead Lake Erie to the win.
The Monsters opened the game's scoring at 3:18 of the first frame. Cameron Gaunce received the puck from Mark Olver while positioned at the point. Gaunce wristed a shot that traveled through traffic and past Hamilton starting goaltender Drew MacIntyre. Lake Erie added its second goal at 13:07 while on the power-play. Gaunce sent a pass up the middle of the ice to Julian Talbot. Talbot skated in alone before snapping a shot between the legs of MacIntyre.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard 16:09 of the first period with a shorthanded goal. J.T. Wyman grabbed the puck after a faceoff in the Bulldogs' zone before taking off down the right side of the ice. Once Wyman was at the top of the right faceoff circle in the Monsters' zone, he rifled a shot that beat Lake Erie starting goaltender John Grahame low on the blocker side.
The Monsters took a two-goal lead at 16:05 of the second frame. Gaunce took a pass at the right point from Steve Oleksy, who was in the left corner, before slapping a shot towards the net. David Van der Gulik tipped the shot passed MacIntyre and into the net.
Lake Erie took a 4-1 lead at 2:01 of the final frame with a power-play marker. Shawn Belle sent the puck to Ben Walter, who proceeded to send a cross-ice pass to Greg Mauldin. Mauldin one-timed a shot past a sprawling MacIntyre and into the back of the net.
The Bulldogs added a goal at 19:26 of the third period. Kyle Klubertanz held the puck at the right circle before sliding the puck towards the net. The puck deflected off of Hunter Bishop before trickling past Grahame and over the goal line.
The Bulldogs will continue their four-game home-stand and the second of three games in three days when they host the Texas Stars for a 4:00 p.m. contest tomorrow at Copps Coliseum.
