MANCHESTER, NH- Carter Hutton made 34 saves in his return between the pipes for Worcester as the Sharks defeated the Monarchs 3-1 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night.

With the Whale loss to Hershey and the Sharks victory, Worcester is now tied with the Connecticut Whale for the 3rd and final guaranteed playoff spot in the Atlantic Division with 15 games to go.

Making his first start between the pipes since February 5, Carter Hutton was brilliant in the opening period making 14 saves, including a great glove stop on Bud Holloway. Brandon Mashinter (14th) struck on the power play as he jammed a puck past Martin Jones after a missed shot by Jon Landry and a nice feed from behind the net by Dan DaSilva at 7:51. The Sharks led 1-0 after 20 minutes despite being outshot 14-5.

Each team fired 10 shots in the second period as Carter Hutton and Martin Jones stood tall in a scoreless middle frame.

Tommy Wingels (12th) sniped a snap shot past Jones on a rush down the left wing for a shorthanded goal at 1:45 into the third period to put the Sharks ahead 2-0. Oscar Moller (19th) sent a rocket from the center slot off the cross bar and off the back of Hutton and over the goal line to put Manchester on the board at 10:37. The Monarchs pressed late, with Hutton making several nice stops before Dan DaSilva (13th) iced the game with an empty netter at 19:57 for a Sharks 3-1 victory.

The Sharks record improves to 30-23-4-8 with 72 points and to 13-13-2-4 on the road. Worcester has 15 games remaining on their 80 game AHL regular season schedule (7 home, 8 away)
