Oklahoma City Barons News Release
The Barons return to the Cox Center to host the Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit Red Wings) for the opener of consecutive games between the clubs. The teams met on Oct 29 at Van Andel Arena, with OKC winning in a shootout 5-4. Tonight is the Barons' league-high 37th home game. After tomorrow, their final two home dates are April 1-2. The Barons enter tonight's game on a 2-game losing streak after dropping a 4-3 decision in San Antonio last night.
OFF THE TOP: After alternating wins and losses in their previous 7 games, the Barons' 4-3 loss last night caused them to drop back-to-back games in regulation for the first time since Jan. 2 and Jan. 7. The setback also stopped the Baron's 3-game road winning streak. OKC is 18-9-0-1 on the road, but 15-15-2-4 at home. OKC has 4 home games remaining, tonight and tomorrow against Grand Rapids and April 1 (Rockford) and April 2 (Texas). They have 12 road games left. The Barons set off on a 9-game, 14-day trip next week on Monday, with the first game on the swing Tuesday at Peoria.
PETRY, PLANTE SWITCH SPOTS: The Edmonton Oilers recalled defenseman Jeff Petry yesterday. Petry had a previous stint with the Oilers from Dec. 27-Feb. 14, playing in 21 games while scoring 1 goal with 2 assists. Defenseman Alex Plante was returned on loan to OKC and played his third game in as many nights counting his previous 2 games with the Oilers. Plante appeared in 3 games for Edmonton, going -2 with no points.
LIGHTING THE LAMP: The Barons are 7-7-0-0 in their last 14 games, but have not surpassed 3 goals in that time. The last time OKC scored more than 3 in a game was Jan. 29, a 5-2 win over Chicago. Alexandre Giroux, still the league's third-leading goal scorer (29) and No. 2 point producer (65), was recalled by Edmonton on Saturday and remains with the Oilers. With Jeff Petry's callup yesterday, 4 of OKC's top 7 point scorers - Giroux, Liam Reddox (5th), Linus Omark (6th) and Petry (7th) - are currently with Edmonton. Reddox and Omark last played for OKC on Jan. 2.
TEUBERT'S STREAK SNAPPED: Defenseman Colten Teubert had 3-game point streak, spanning his brief stay with the Barons, snapped last night in his first road game with OKC. Tuebert, acquired from Los Angeles along with a 2011 first-round pick and a conditional 2012 pick for Dustin Penner, had previously spent his rookie season with the AHL's Manchester Monarchs, producing 2 goals, 8 assists and 57 PIM in 39 games. Tuebert turned 21 on Tuesday.
SPECIALIZATION: OKC's penalty killing percentage of 83.9 is tied for 10th in the AHL. The PK is ranked 18th at home (82.2), but jumps to tied for fifth on the road (86.2). The Barons' power play is 3-for-40 (7.5%) in the last 8 games and 6-for-75 (8.0%) over the last 17. In those 17 games, the Barons have not had a multiple power-play goal game. Their last time multiple power-play goal game was Jan. 23 at Chicago, when they went 2-for-4 in a 2-1 win.
ODDS AND ENDS: OKC out-shot San Antonio last night 27-21...the Barons have out-shot the opposition in 8 straight games, but are 3-5 in that time...for the season, the Barons are 17-12-1-1 when out-shooting the opposition, 15-11-1-3 when out-shot and 1-1-0-1 when the shots are even...Colin McDonald is tied for sixth in the AHL with a career-high 25 goals...Brad Moran is tied for eighth in the league with 55 points...defenseman Taylor Fedun of Princeton, signed as a free agent for the next 2 seasons by Edmonton on Tuesday, could join the Barons this weekend on an Amateur Tryout (ATO).
