Currently sitting three points out of a playoff spot, Lake Erie (72 points) battles the two teams directly above it in the standings this weekend, visiting Hamilton (75) on Friday and Toronto (75) on Saturday... The Monsters, who have played just four road games since Jan. 16, are beginning a stretch of five straight away from Quicken Loans Arena... Lake Erie's Mark Olver leads all AHL rookies with 23 goals (23-16-39) in 57 games this season and has put up 3-1-4 totals in six clashes with Hamilton on the year... Leading scorer Ben Walter (18-31-49) has a point in eight of his last nine games for the Monsters (2-10-12); Greg Mauldin has found the scoresheet in six of his last seven games (3-4-7); and Matthew Ford shows seven goals (7-1-8) in his past eight outings... Hamilton is 6-2-0-2 since halting a five-game losing skid but has totaled just four goals in its last three contests... Nigel Dawes has racked up six goals and 10 points in seven games since joining the Bulldogs... Toronto brings a four-game points streak (3-0-1-0) into the weekend and will be hosting Lake Erie for the first time since Oct. 30... Rookie Nazem Kadri (14-22-36 in 41 GP) is scoreless in a season-high four straight games.
Worcester looks to get back in the playoff picture this weekend with a trio of key games, as the Sharks visit Atlantic-leading Manchester on Friday before clashing with Connecticut in a home-and-home set... The Sharks are two points back of the Whale for the Atlantic's third and final guaranteed playoff spot, and both have 16 games remaining... Worcester is just 12-13-2-4 on the road this season compared with a 17-10-2-4 mark at the DCU Center... Brandon Mashinter has tallied a goal in two straight games and shows a point in four of five (2-3-5) for the Sharks, who have been without leading scorer Jonathan Cheechoo (18-29-47) for five straight contests... Manchester enters with a one-point lead over second-place Portland but has played four more games than the Pirates... The Moose are 5-3-0-0 thus far on the junket and hold a slim one-point lead on Hamilton and Toronto for first place in the North Division... Guillaume Desbiens has a team-high eight points (4-4-8) on the road trip and has totaled 23 points (10-13-23) in just 37 AHL games on the season... Rookie Cody Hodgson has a point in three of his last four tilts (2-2-4) for the Moose, while second-year North American pro Sergei Shirokov continues to pace the club in goals (18), assists (28), and points (46) overall... Manitoba enters the weekend with the AHL's second-ranked penalty kill (85.3 percent)... Houston suffered back-to-back regulation losses last weekend for just the second time since the calendar turned to 2011... Patrick O'Sullivan is riding a 10-game scoring streak (5-12-17) and has racked up 13-18-31 in 23 games since joining the Aeros...
