November 15, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Ontario Reign News Release
ANCHORAGE, AK - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, swept its three-game series against the Alaska Aces with a 2-1 victory on Sunday. Dusty Collins and David Walker scored their first goals of the season to lead the Reign's offense.
The first period yielded no goals or power plays for either team, but the Reign changed both of those streaks early in the second period. Just 37 seconds into the frame, Alaska's Brandon Gentile snapped David Walker's stick in two with a hard slash and drew the first penalty of the game. Collins capitalized just seven seconds into the power play, as he banged home a rebound to give the Reign a 1-0 lead.
The Reign maintained its one goal edge until 16:50 of the third period, when Walker widened the Ontario lead to two goals with his first tally of the season while on the two-man advantage.
Alaska wasn't ready to throw in the towel. The Aces pulled goaltender Adam Courchaine in the last minute of play and Wes Goldie cut the Reign lead to 2-1 at 19:20. However, the Reign withstood a fierce Alaska onslaught in the closing seconds to cement the 2-1 victory.
Kellen Briggs saved 30 of 31 shots to earn the win for Ontario, while Courchaine took the loss with 18 saves in the 20 shots he faced for Alaska.
Briggs and Corey were outstanding throughout the series. Briggs stopped 94 of 99 shots and finished with a 1.67 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage. Corey recorded an assist and three goals, including an overtime game-winner, a shorthanded goal, and a power play goal.
Tonight's three stars were: 1) ONT - Kellen Briggs 2) ONT - David Walker 3) AK - Adam Courchaine
