Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Portland, Maine- On Friday night the Portland Sea Dogs and Reading Phillies completed the May 27th game that was suspended due to rain in Reading, Pennsylvania. Brian Stavisky hit a three run homer in the bottom of the ninth with two outs to give the Phillies a 10-7 walk-off win at Hadlock Field.

The Sea Dogs trailed the Reading Phillies, 4-2 after five innings of play, but erased that deficit, and took a 6-4 lead in the top of the sixth. As soon as Nate Spears singled to put the Sea Dogs in the lead, the rain began to fall at a substantial clip, forcing the game to be suspended.

Portland got off to a nice start scoring single runs in both the first and second innings. Luis Exposito had a RBI double in the first and Chih-Hsien Chiang chipped in with a RBI double in the second.

The Phillies got one run back in the bottom of the second, as John Suomi knocked in Matthew Rizzotti with a sacrifice fly to center. In the fourth inning, Reading came back to take the lead. Domonic Brown reached on an error by Anthony Rizzo, and moved to second base on a balk by Stephen Fife. Tagg Bozied doubled home Brown with the tying run, then scored the go-ahead run, when Rizzotti blooped a double over third base.

Reading added another run in the fifth on an RBI single by Bozied, but the lead did not last, as the Sea Dogs came back to tie the game, and eventually take a lead of their own against the Phillies' bullpen. Tyson Brummett ran into trouble in the sixth as the reliever allowed two hits and one walk, leaving the game with two outs and the bases loaded. Two of those runners quickly scored off of Matt German, who walked both hitters he faced. John Ennis took over for German, and allowed a two-run single to Nate Spears, putting Portland ahead, 6-4, at which point the game was delayed and ultimately suspended.

When play resumed, on June 4th, Tommy Hottovy took the mound for the Sea Dogs, he was greeted by a solo home run from Suomi to bring the Phillies within a run. Portland would respond with a home run from Nate Spears in the eighth inning to once again give Portland a two run lead 7-5.

However, Portland could not put the game away in the ninth, surrendering five runs to Reading including the three run walk-off homer from Stavisky. Hottovy (3-1) suffers the loss. Ennis (2-0) picks-up the win for Reading.
