Fisher Cats Foundation Presents Scholar-Athlete Scholarships

Manchester, NH- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, are proud to announce this year's recipients of the Fisher Cats Foundation Scholar-Athlete Scholarships. A grand total of $30,000 was presented to 12 college-bound high school seniors: 10 from New Hampshire and two from Massachusetts. Each of the 12 students chosen from more than 300 applicants was awarded a $2,500 scholarship. A majority of the award-winning students were recognized on the field prior to tonight's Fisher Cats/Altoona Curve 7:05pm game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium, where they were presented with their award by Fisher Cats President/General Manager Rick Brenner.

The monies for the scholarships were raised from November's charitable Granite State Baseball Dinner, presented by Northeast Delta Dental, and through a portion of the proceeds received from 50-50 raffles held at Fisher Cats home games. The scholarships were made possible by the Fisher Cats Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to bettering the lives of our youth by supporting Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD)and providing annual scholarships to New Hampshire and Massachusetts high school seniors.

"After a thorough selection process for the record number of applicants, we are pleased to congratulate this year's deserving Fisher Cats Foundation Scholar-Athlete Scholarship winners: Casey Barney, Justin Cullity, Max Esposito, Michael Fowler, Holly Hancock, Hunter Judd, Maria Kuehl, Tyler McAfee, Shyanne Millette, Nicholas Nalette, Halie Olszowy and Rose Scott," said Art Solomon, Fisher Cats owner and chairman of the Fisher Cats Foundation Board.

Here is a list of this year's winners, who earned the scholarships based on criteria that included academic achievement, athletic achievement and active citizenship:

*Casey Barney(Ashland, NH/Plymouth Regional High School) will attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute and will major in electrical engineering.

*Justin Cullity (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial High School) will attend the University of New Hampshire and has not declared a major.

*Max Esposito(Rye, NH/Portsmouth High School) will attend Northeastern University and major in physical therapy.

*Michael Fowler(Maynard, MA/Maynard High School) will attend Springfield College and major in sports management.

*Holly Hancock(Tilton, NH/Winnisquam Regional High School) will attend Roger Williams University and major in graphic design.

*Hunter Judd(Pittsburg, NH/Pittsburg High School) will attend Southern New Hampshire University and has not declared a major.

*Maria Kuehl(Middleton, NH/Farmington High School) will attend the University of New England and major in pre-med/biology.

*Tyler McAfee(Nashua, NH/Nashua High School North) will attend the University of New Hampshire and major in political science.

*Shyanne Millette (North Haverhill, NH/Woodsville High School) is the recipient of the Swymer Family Scholarship, an award offered annually to a student who has overcome a barrier and gone on to college. Millette will attend New England College and has not declared a major.

*Nicholas Nalette(Goffstown, NH/Trinity High School) will attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and has not declared a major.

*Halie Olszowy(Littleton, NH/Littleton High School) will attend the University of New Hampshire and has not declared a major.

*Rose Scott(Lawrence, MA/Greater Lawrence Technical High School) will attend Emerson College and major in broadcast journalism.
