Akron RubberDucks News Release

- Thursday Trifecta... Rain could not prevent an Aeros victory Thursday, as Akron held off a 45-minute rain delay in defeating the Erie SeaWolves 3-2 at Canal Park. The three-game series sweep was the first of the season for the Aeros as early offense and dominant relieving sealed the deal. In the bottom of the first, right fielder Matt McBride delivered a run-scoring double to left-center and Beau Mills hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Erie tied up the game in the top of the second while the rain halted action in the middle of that frame. Two innings later, the second SeaWolves error of the night then scored Carlos Rivero for the game-winning run and the Akron pitching staff did not allow a base runner to reach second in the final five frames. Reliever Chen-Chang Lee (2-3) earned the win with a pair of shutout innings and left-handed starter Duane Below (2-5) took the loss for Erie.

- Powerful Pitchers... The SeaWolves collected just six runs in the entire three-game series at Canal Park as the Akron pitching staff continues to be dominant recently. The Aeros are now 16-5 on the year when holding their opponent to three runs or less and that has happened in 12 of the last 19 games for the team. Relievers provided 12.1 shutout innings in the series and have a 2.25 ERA overall since May 8th while Akron also ranks second in the Eastern League with 411 strikeouts as a team this season.

- Mountain Hawk Legend... In the pitcher's duel Thursday night, McBride stood out as the offensive player with the best overall performance. He finished 2-for-4 at the plate with the RBI double as he hit safely in every single game in the series. A product of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, McBride is also batting .294 in 21 road games this season with all four of his home runs.

- Moving on Up... Third baseman Jared Goedert was promoted to Class AAA Columbus following the contest last night against the SeaWolves. The 25-year-old will soon make his Clippers debut and in return the Aeros received utility infielder Adam Davis from Class A Kinston. Davis was batting .227 in 24 games played for the K-Tribe and he will be wearing #9 for Akron.

- Standing Tall... The win Thursday was the fourth in a row for the Aeros as the team now stands just four games behind both Bowie and Harrisburg in the race for second place in the Western Division. The top two teams from each division in the Eastern League advance to the playoffs and a berth would the sixth in a row for Akron. Despite being six games under .500 at 24-30, there still remains a decent shot for another interesting end to the baseball season in downtown Akron.

- Senatorial Start... The Aeros begin a three-game weekend series at Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg tonight. It will be the first and only trip on the season for Akron to the site of the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game. The Senators lost two out of three in their first visit to Canal Park in May and the two teams meet only nine times this year despite being Western Division rivals.
