Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Akron Aeros and Mother Nature combined to beat the Harrisburg Senators on Friday night, 3-2 at Metro Bank Park. The game experienced two rain delays, one 33-minute delay which pushed back the game's first pitch, and another which began after the seventh inning, and eventually resulted in the game's being called.

The Senators (28-27) had a 2-0 lead going into the seventh inning, with Andrew Kown (1-1) having pitched six scoreless innings. But Akron (25-30) plated three in the top of the seventh, shut down the Senators in the bottom of the frame, and escaped with a 3-2 victory thanks in large part to the torrential downpours at Metro Bank Park.

Eric Berger (2-4) picked up the win for Akron, pitching what turned into a complete game, as he went all seven innings. He was perfect through four, but allowed two runs, on four hits and a walk, in the fifth. Chris Marrero led off that inning with a single, and Edgardo Baez then drew a walk. Marrero, though, was thrown out trying to take third base on a pitch in the dirt, and the loss of that lead runner proved costly.

With two outs in that same innings, Marvin Lowrance doubled home Baez, and then scored on an RBI single from Jhonatan Solano. Josh Johnson followed that up with a single, but he and Solano were stranded when Berger struck out Coon to end the inning. Berger finished with ten strikeouts in all, and allowed five hits. Marrero, Lowrance, Solano, Johnson, and Jesus Valdez collected the five hits.

Game two of the three-game series is Saturday night at Metro Bank Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 7 PM. Left-hander Aaron Thompson (2-8, 6.15) goes for the Senators, against LHP Kelvin De La Cruz (1-3, 5.84) of the Aeros. Radio coverage of the game begins at 6:45 PM, on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
