December 31, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush are proud to announce the selection of Rich Hansen selected as a starter on the Central Hockey League's 2008-2009 All-Star Team. For Hansen, this is his second appearance at the All-Star game, first as a starter.
"I'm obviously excited. Being voted by the media, it's an honor that people would consider me in that category," said Hansen. "I'm not looking past our upcoming games. Winning games with the Rush is the focus right now, but when the All-Star game comes, I know I'll be very excited."
Through the first 27 games of the season, Hansen has accumulated 13 goals and 26 assists for a team-leading 39 points. Hansen also leads the team with 2 shorthanded goals including the first in Rush history, as well as 2 game-winning goals.
"We're very proud that in our first year as an expansion team that one our players, Rich Hansen, was selected as a starter to participate in the All-Star game", said Rapid City Head Coach Joe Ferras. "With only one player chosen from each team , not only is it a great honor for Rich Hansen but for the Rush organization."
This is the second award for Hansen this season. After the first month, Hansen was named Sher- Wood Player of the Month by the CHL for his performance during the month of October. In his 7 games during the month of October, Hansen recorded 7 goals and 11 assists for 18 points. That includes a six-point opening weekend against the Colorado Eagles, currently the CHL's top team.
"Obviously Richie's play on the ice through our first 27 games has been exemplary," added coach Ferras. "With nine first year guys, Richie has been instrumental as a leader in the locker room as well as on the ice in grooming our young hockey players and he is very deserving of this honor."
The 2009 CHL All-Star Game is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14th at the Budweiser Events Center. The CHL is following a new format for this season as the All-Stars will take on the Colorado Eagles.
