Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Central Hockey League today announced the reserves for the 2009 Central Hockey League All-Star team, naming Mudbugs center Travis Clayton as the team's representative in the All-Star Game. Clayton will make his seventh CHL All-Star appearance when the All-Stars take on the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday, January 14th at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado. Starters for the CHL All-Stars were announced yesterday, with 12 reserves being added today to complete the 18-player roster.
"It's always an honor to be named to an All-Star Game," Clayton said. "I've been fortunate enough to play in a few of them in my career, and it's definitely fun to play with some of the great players in our league. There's so many guys on this team that could have made it, but I'm excited and hopefully I can do a good job representing the Mudbugs."
Clayton, who is in his first season with Bossier-Shreveport, tacks this All-Star appearance onto the six selections he earned as a member of the Wichita Thunder in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006. The Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan native has 11 goals, 13 assists and 24 points on the season to go with a +1 rating and 28 penalty minutes. Clayton's ten powerplay goals are tied for fourth in the CHL this season and his 11 total goals are tied for the team lead. He is tied for third on the Mudbugs in scoring and has also posted two game-winning goals this season.
Clayton continues to make his mark on CHL history this season, his 12th in the league. He has already surpassed the league's all-time record for career games played this year, playing in the 709th game of his CHL career on November 21 at Rocky Mountain. The 5-8, 180-pounder has suited up for 724 Central Hockey League games entering Wednesday night. Clayton is also closing in on second place all-time in CHL history in career assists and points and is already the second-leading goal scorer in league history.
The reserves were selected by the two co-coaches (Doug Sauter of Oklahoma City and Paul Gillis of Odessa) of the CHL All-Star team. Joining Clayton on the team are forwards Daymen Rycroft (Rocky Mountain), Chris Richards (Corpus Christi), Jeff Christian (Tulsa), Dominic Leveille (Odessa), Jason Duda (Wichita), and Louis Dumont (Mississippi), defensemen Aaron MacInnis (New Mexico), Russ Moyer (Odessa), Tyler Fleck (Oklahoma City) and Nicolas Dumoulin (Rio Grande Valley), and goaltender Sebastien Centomo (Laredo).
Starters for the All-Stars, which were announced by the league yesterday, were selected following completion of balloting among all CHL Head Coaches, Communications Departments and selected media members in each market. The starters for this year's All-Star game are: forwards Joel Irving (Arizona), Rich Hansen (Rapid City), and Darryl Smith (Laredo), defensemen Justin Kinnunen (Texas) and Sam Ftorek (Amarillo), and goaltender Andy Franck (Oklahoma City).
Clayton and the Mudbugs are in Mississippi tonight for a New Year's Eve battle with the RiverKings. The Bugs are 3-0 against their Northeast Division rivals this season with three wins over the âKings between October 21 and November 12. Bossier-Shreveport and Missisippi faceoff tonight for the fourth of their 12 regular season meetings this year. The puck will drop at 7:05 pm in this one with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 pm on 710 AM KEEL. The game will also be shown live online on the CHL Network.
