Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS - The Mississippi RiverKings scored three goals in a 38 second span of the first period and didn't look back in a 6-0 win over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Wednesday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. It was Bossier-Shreveport's worst defeat since a 6-0 loss in Tulsa all the way back on February 19, 2002.

The Mudbugs only mustered seven shots on goal in the first two periods, but got a few more chances in the third and ended with 17 shots on goal in Kevin Beech's first shutout of the season.

The RiverKings quickly turned the game in their favor late in the first period with the three-goal outburst. Jeff Nelson started the scoring during a 5-on-3 powerplay chance, putting a rebound past Ryan Mior to make it 1-0 RiverKings. Brad Bonello scored just 26 seconds later after the remaining powerplay time had expired and Matt Pierce lit the lamp 12 seconds after that to make it 3-0 Mississippi after one. The Kings outshot the Mudbugs 18-3 in the first.

The RiverKings added to the lead in the second period when Andrew Lackner scored a powerplay goal from between the circles to make it 4-0. Bossier-Shreveport had only seven shots on goal and trailed by four after two periods.

The Mudbugs came out stronger in the third period, getting a few more shots early on, but were unable to solve Beech. Mississippi tacked on two more goals from Bobby Chaumont and Matt Summers in the third to finish out the 6-0 win.

Ryan Mior still made 33 saves despite surrendering all six goals and is now 6-7-0 on the season. Beech advanced his record to 13-8-0 with the win. The Bugs finished 0 for 6 on the powerplay, while Mississippi scored twice in eight chances. The RiverKings ended with a commanding 39-17 shot advantage.
