HOUSTON - The San Antonio Rampage won their seventh straight game to tie a franchise record with a 5-3 victory over the Houston Aeros on Friday night at the Toyota Center. The Rampage improved to 15-4-1-0 as they lead the AHL with 31 points.
The last time the Rampage won seven in a row was Mar. 26-Apr. 11, 2009. Brett MacLean tied an individual franchise record scoring his 60th goal in a Rampage jersey to tie him with Joel Perrault on the all-time goal scoring list.
MacLean and Tim Stapleton each tallied a goal and an assist while Oliver Ekman-Larsson recorded two assists on the night. Netminder Al Montoya picked up his fourth consecutive win turning aside 22 of 25 Aeros shot attempts.
Houston took an early 1-0 advantage 3:54 into the first period with a five-on-three power-play goal by Casey Wellman. The Rampage evened the score 2:38 later on Tim Stapleton's eighth goal of the season beating Aeros netminder Matt Hackett low glove side on the power play.
Just 43 seconds into the second period, San Antonio right wing Viktor Tikhonov gave the Rampage a 2-1 lead taking advantage of an Aeros turnover in the neutral zone. The Aeros tied the game on a Maxim Noreau power-play goal, Houston's second man advantage goal of the night, at the 3:16 mark of the middle frame.
The Rampage responded with a rebound goal by center Andrew Ebbett at the 5:39 mark of the second period for a 3-2 score. MacLean collected the assist extending his point-streak to five games.
