Peoria Rivermen News Release
Dave Scatchard's game-tying goal in the third period was enough to earn the Peoria Rivermen a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Chicago Wolves in front of 6,018 fans at Carver Arena on Friday night. The Rivermen ended their season-long seven-game homestand with a 4-2-1 record and now have at least a point in their last four games (3-0-1).
Spencer Machacek pushed a rebound past Ben Bishop at 2:07 of overtime to win the game for the Wolves in their first meeting of the season and only matchup until Feb. 1. It was the first overtime loss of the season for Peoria who is now 1-1 in overtime and 1-1 in shootouts.
Derek Nesbitt scored just 55 seconds into the first period on a shot from the bottom of the left circle after finding a Scatchard rebound to give the Rivermen the early advantage. It was Nesbitt's second goal of the seasons since joining the club from ECHL Gwinnett seven games ago.
Chicago's tied the game on a Paul Potsma on a wrist shot from the right circle that sailed over Ben Bishop's glove into the top shelf just 7:00 into the first period.
Jared Ross added the Wolves' second goal at 10:36 in the second period after capitalizing on a turnover in the neutral zone, resulting in a breakaway that led to a shot over Bishop's glove.
The Rivermen tied it up at 4:43 in the third period when a missed opportunity turned into the game-tying goal. Dave Scatchard setup Nesbitt for a one-time from the slot but he fired it off the glass above Peter Mannino. Scatchard grabbed the puck from behind the net and was able to bring it back in front put in the net before Mannino could recover.
A Rivermen turnover 2 minutes into overtime allowed Michael Davies to get a shot off from the left circle, which Bishop saved, however, Machacek was able to grab the rebound and put it past Bishop's right side for the game winner.
Peoria finished the game with a 35 to 28 advantage in shots and after a 4-for-4 performance on the penalty kill have killed off 24 consecutive power plays against them. On the homestand they killed 33 of 35 and 61 of 67 at home this year.
The Rivermen start a four-game road trip when they travel to Rockford on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. start at the MetroCentre. The game can be heard locally at 96.5 ESPN Radio or online through www.rivermen.net.
