Marlies Edge Past Amerks in 3-2 Win
November 26, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans fell to the Toronto Marlies 3-2 tonight at The Blue Cross Arena. The Amerks held the lead twice during the contest, however, they were unable to hold it as the Marlies scored their game-winner on the power-play. Rochester slides to a current season record of 9-11-1-0 and a home record of 2-8-0-0. With the win, Toronto advances to 11-8-0-3.
Leading the Amerks tonight were AJ Jenks (1+1) and Mike Dubuc (1+0), each netting one of Rochester's two goals. Jenks also earned an assist on Dubuc's goal, giving him a multiple point game. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom saved 16 of the 19 shots faced in the losing effort.
Shining for the Marlies were Jay Rosehill (1+0), Christian Hanson (1+0), and Joey Crabb (1+0), who all contributed single tallies tonight, with Crabb's being the power-play game-winner. Netminder Jussi Rynnas made 26 saves of 28 shots.
The Marlies were the first to score early in the first period as Rosehill tipped in Korbinian Holzer's (0+1) shot at 5:42 into the contest to put Toronto on top 1-0. As Amerks defenseman Adam Comrie (0+1) attempted to clear the puck off the boards, Korbinian was there to intercept it at the right point, and without hesitation, threw a shot on net into traffic. Rosehill, stationed in the near slot, managed to get his stick on it and deflected it inside the far post past Markstrom for his fourth goal of the season.
A very unlucky bounce quickly evened things up later in the period with a goal that completely eluded Rynnas from 30 feet away. Nearing the end of his shift, Jenks made his way up the ice through the neutral zone with the sole intention of executing a routine dump-in play before exiting the ice. As Jenks approached the blue line, he threw a shot on goal, except the puck took a terrible bounce within the crease and hopped over the Toronto netminder's shoulder and into the back of the net. Newcomer Kyle Rank (0+1), playing in his first game as an Amerk, earned an assist on the play as well as defenseman Clay Wilson (0+1). The goal, at 14:46, was Jenks' second of the season.
The Amerks took the lead early in the second period at 1:12 with a goal by Dubuc. Jenks dished the puck to Comrie, who took it up the ice and slid it to Dubuc entering the Marlies zone. Dubuc managed to outhustle the Toronto defender and then fired it top shelf past Rynnas for his first of the season.
Toronto battled back and tied the score at two at 13:13. Dale Mitchell (0+1) took the initial shot, and the puck went right to the stick of Hanson. Hanson tipped it past Markstrom for his fourth of the season. The Marlies would then take the lead just minutes later when Hanson and Danny Richmond (0+1) assisted Crabb for his ninth goal of the season on the power-play. The Amerks were unable to answer back, leaving the contest in a final 3-2 decision.
The Amerks hit the road on Saturday, November 27th as they battle the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. Fans can tune into the live broadcast on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. The game will mark the third get-together in as many weeks for the non-divisional foes. Rochester has gone winless in the first two meetings, despite owning 12-10-6 lifetime record against the Baby Penguins.
