Devils End Road Trip with Loss at Manchester

MANCHESTER, N.H. - A fast start paced the Manchester Monarchs to a 7-2 victory against the Albany Devils Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Devils closed out their four-game road trip, going 2-2. The team returns to the Times Union Center Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest against Binghamton.

David McIntyre and Adam Henrique scored for the Devils. McIntyre registering the team's fourth shorthanded goal of the season thanks to a persistent, individual effort. McIntyre picked the pocket of a Monarch defender and went five hole at 11:34 of the second to make it 4-1.

Henrique also split the legs when he scored at 12:20 of the third period from the left face-off circle. Vladimir Zharkov and Matt Anderson assisted on the play that made it 6-2.

To start, Brayden Schenn and David Meckler helped Manchester to an early 2-0 lead. First, Schenn cleaned up a rebound in the crease at 5:39 with the assists going to Meckler and Corey Elkins. Moments later, Meckler scored on a one-time feed in the slot. Schenn received a pass at the left half wall from Oscar Mollwer, skated along the end boards and dished a pass in front.

Before the teams headed to the locker room for the first break, a wrist shot off the stick of Marc-Andre Cliche made it 3-0 at 17:50. Jake Muzzin and Andrei Loktionov had the helpers.

Patrick Mullen then made it 4-0 at 8:26, before McIntyre spoiled the shutout.

The Monarchs answered with goals from Elkin at 19:04 of the second and Schenn at 2:55 of the third.

After Henrique's goal, Colten Teubert finished the scoring at 16:21 of the third.

Dave Caruso got the start in goal for the Devils. He was appearing in his second-straight game after supplying 40 minutes of relief against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday. Before the game, Albany signed Jeff Lerg to a PTO to fill in for Jeff Frazee, who left Wednesday's game after taking a shot up high late in the first period.

Caruso stopped 28-of-35 shots, while Manchester's Jeff Zatkoff denied 34-of-36 tries.

Manchester, which entered the game in second place in the Atlantic Division, improves to 13-7-1-1. Albany is now 8-11-0-0.
