Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford, B.C.- Leland Irving would steal the show in the much anticipated first meeting between the Abbotsford Heat and Manitoba Moose stopping 40 of the 41 Moose shots. The Heat would seal the deal in the shootout with Matt Keith making it a final of 2-1 on Friday night at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

The Abbotsford Heat and Manitoba Moose would jump out of the gate ready to go in a fast paced first period of AHL action Friday night in Abbotsford. Despite the early end to end action both teams would head to their dressing rooms deadlocked at donuts.

The game would show no signs of slowing down in the second, as both teams would continue to battle furiously at both ends. Lance Bouma would open the scoring 58 seconds into the second, as he would bang a puck under the arm of Moose goaltender Eddie Lack. Leland Irving would have an unbelievable second period, stopping all 15 shots on net including a massive glove hand save inside on Manitoba's Lee Sweatt during a crucial 5 on 3 penalty kill late in the period.

The Manitoba Moose would not let up in the third as they continued to press trying to even up the score at 1's. The Moose's efforts would be rewarded on the power play, as Manitoba's Kevin Connauton would capitalize on a screen shot from the point that would elude Irving. Irving would make a final save late in the period to preserve the tie and force the game into overtime.

Leland Irving would continue his great play between the pipes in overtime making some key stops to send the game to a shootout. Jon Rheault, Bryan Cameron, and Matt Keith would all score markers in the shootout to give the Heat the big victory. Irving would turn aside shots by Jordan Schroeder, Marco Rosa and Cody Hodgson.

The Heat remains in second place in the North Division with their 12th victory of the season. Irving picks up his AHL leading 11th win of the season and 4th shootout decision as well.

The Abbotsford Heat will take on the same Manitoba Moose tomorrow night at a sold out Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre on Saturday night. Game time at the AESC is 7 PM.
