Rampage Fall to Aeros, 4-2

SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio Rampage right wing Bill Thomas recorded his first goal of the season in the Rampage's 4-2 loss to the Houston Aeros on Friday night in front of a crowd of 6,663 at the AT&T Center.

Thomas struck first for the Rampage with a power-play goal at the 6:37 mark of the opening period. The play was started by San Antonio center Mark Cullen firing a shot from the right side boards that bounced off of Aeros goalie Matt Hackett and onto the stick of Rampage forward Greg Rallo. Rallo's shot hit the post but Thomas batted the puck out of mid air and into the net to give San Antonio a 1-0 lead.

Houston answered back with a power-play goal of their own to start the second session. Left wing Kris Foucault finished a quick passing play that went from defenseman Chay Genoway to center Jeff Taffe to Foucault, who was stationed in the high slot. Foucault wristed a shot high and over Rampage goaltender Tyler Plante's glove to tie the game 1-1 at the 3:26 mark.

Rallo regained the lead for San Antonio at 6:41 of the middle frame with his second goal of the season. Cullen took a shot immediately off a faceoff in the Houston zone that deflected off the pads of Hackett out to Rallo at the front of the goalmouth, where he quickly deposited the puck into the net for a 2-1 Rampage lead.

Nearly 14 minutes into the second period, Genoway collected his second point of the night with a power-play goal to even the score at 2-2. Right Wing Jarod Palmer took a shot from the point that hit Plante and the puck came out to Genoway near the hash marks between the offensive zone circles. Genoway snapped a shot high and inside the left post for his first goal of the year. Defenseman Jon DiSalvatore picked up his fifth point of the season with a secondary assist.

The Aeros added a third power-play goal 42 seconds remaining in the middle frame to take a 3-2 lead. Taffe found a loose puck floating at the blue line and stepped into a slap shot that beat Plante high and past his blocker for the goal. DiSalvatore and right wing Justin Fontaine notched assists on the play.

Houston widened their lead to 4-2 with an empty net goal from center Casey Wellman at 18:35 of the third period. Center Chad Rau and defenseman Jordan Hendry tallied the assists.

Rampage head coach Chuck Weber pulled Plante in favor of the extra attacker with 3:09 remaining in regulation. Houston center Casey Wellman added an insurance goal at the 18:35 mark to give the Aeros their fifth win of the season.

Hackett stopped 32 of 34 Rampage shots he faced for the win while Plante made 24 saves on 27 Aeros shots.

The Rampage (3-3-0-0) return to the ice tomorrow night to face off against the Charlotte Checkers for the first time in franchise history as the Rampage continue a three-in-three homestand at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
