Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Chicago, IL--Ryan Thang scored his team-best fifth goal and Jeremy Smith stopped 27 shots to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 2-1 win over the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena Friday.
The win extended Milwaukee's AHL record of consecutive road games without a loss in regulation to 21 (14-0-4-3). Including postseason, the Admirals streak is at 27 games.
Milwaukee improved its record to 5-0-0-1 in 2011-2012. The team is now 3-0 against the Wolves in this season's Amtrak Rivalry.
Thang banged in his fifth goal of the season with 6:27 remaining in the game. Admirals forward Kyle Wilson stole the puck from Wolves defenseman Sebastian Erixon at the Admirals blue line and led a 3-on-1 rush into the Wolves end. Wilson's shot from the right circle resulted in a rebound off Chicago netminder Matt Climie to Thang for the game-winning goal.
Chicago opened the scoring at 9:38 of the second period when former Admirals forward Darren Haydar fed a pass from the right corner to Nathan Longpre for a tap-in at the left post. The goal was the first professional goal for Longpre.
Milwaukee tied the game with 1:55 remaining in the second period. The Wolves tried to hold the offensive blue line but the puck bounced to Admirals defenseman Victor Bartley. Bartley threaded a pass to a streaking Juuso Puustinen who was finally to beat Wolves netminder Matt Climie with a deke to complete the breakaway. The goal was Puustinen's third of the season.
Both teams had outstanding scoring chances in the first period with Milwaukee outshooting the Wolves 19-12. However, all of those shots were turned aside by the respective goalies.
The Admirals return home Saturday at 7:00 pm against Grand Rapids with a free post-game concert from country music star Craig Morgan.
