
Columbus Blue Jackets Recall LW Matt Calvert from Springfield

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled forward Matt Calvert from the Springfield Falcons, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, and assigned left wing Maksim Mayorov and defenseman David Savard to Springfield, Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced today.
Calvert, 21, has recorded one assist, two penalty minutes and is +1 in five games with the Blue Jackets this season and added two penalty minutes in four games with the Falcons. He recorded. He made his National Hockey League debut last season on January 7 and went on to tally 11-9-20, 12 penalty minutes and was +3 in 42 games with Columbus. He began the season in Springfield and collected 13-12-25 and 12 penalty minutes in 38 games. The Brandon, Manitoba native was the Blue Jackets' fifth pick, 127th overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft.
Mayorov, 22, has collected 1-0-1 and two penalty minutes in eight games with Columbus this season. In 20 career NHL games, he has notched 2-0-2 and two penalty minutes. He appeared in five games with the Blue Jackets in 2010-11 and scored his first NHL goal Apr. 1 vs. Chicago. He also had 19-14-33 and 16 penalty minutes in 69 games with Springfield, pushing his AHL career totals to 53-43-96 and 70 penalty minutes in 214 games. A native of Andizhan, Russia, he was the Blue Jackets' fifth pick, 94th overall, in the 2007 Entry Draft.
Savard, 21, recorded two assists and six penalty minutes in seven games with the Blue Jackets this season registered two penalty minutes in one game with the Falcons. He made his NHL debut against Nashville on October 7 and recorded his first career point at Dallas on October 15. In 2010-11, he played his first professional season with Springfield and collected 11-32-43 and 18 penalty minutes in 72 games. He led club defensemen in goals, assists and points and ranked eighth (tied) among AHL defensemen in goals and 14th (tied) in points. The St-Hyacinthe, Quebec native was the Blue Jackets' third pick, 94th overall, in the 2009 Entry Draft.
The Blue Jackets return to action Saturday when the club visits the Chicago Blackhawks. Game time from United Center is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
