TONIGHT: This marks the first time the Barons and Charlotte Checkers (Carolina Hurricanes) will meet on the ice in the clubs' brief AHL tenures. Both franchises entered the league last season. Charlotte, an Eastern Conference team in 2010-11, is playing this year out of the Midwest Division of the Western Conference. This is the first of 8 matchups between the teams. The Barons wrap up a season-high 5-game homestand tonight. They are 3-0-0-1 so far. The Checkers are beginning a 9-game road trip that sees them return to OKC Nov. 11-12 near the end of the swing.

OFF THE TOP: The Barons' last played on Saturday in the second of back-to-back games against Grand Rapids. The Griffins won 3-2 in a 9-round shootout 3-2 to snap OKC's 4-game winning streak. The shootout defeat, the Barons' first game this season to stretch beyond regulation time, also halted a 3-game home winning streak. The Barons have already surpassed their regular-season high from last year for consecutive home wins, which was 2 on four occasions. The 2010-11 Barons rallied to finish 18-16-2-4 at home, while going 22-13-0-5 on the road.

DEFENSE NOT RESTING: The Barons enter tonight's game on a 5-game unbeaten streak in regulation at 4-0-0-1. In that span, the Barons have allowed 7 goals. They gave up 7 goals in the season opener in a 7-0 loss at Texas.

FRONT RUNNING: A late second-period goal by Grand Rapids' Brent Raedeke on Saturday to open the scoring marked the first time in nearly 14 periods that the Barons trailed. OKC had a tie score or lead during all 4 previous winning efforts and for the first 35 minutes, 45 seconds of Saturday's game. The no-deficit stretch lasted 275:45 and included 9 intermissions without trailing (7 leads, 2 ties).

PK HEATS UP: The Barons are 27-for-29 (93.1 percent) on the penalty kill in their last 5 games, during which they've gone 4-0-0-1. The Barons had a stretch of 23 consecutive successful penalty kills snapped by Grand Rapids on Saturday. OKC is 22-for-23 on the PK at home, a 95.7 percent rate.

OVER YANN-DER: Yann Danis has won 3 straight starts, all at home Oct. 15, 16 and 21, allowing 2 goals in 180 minutes for a 0.67 GAA in that span. Danis has stopped 81 of 83 shots during his 3-game winning streak for a .976 save percentage. He recorded the team's lone shutout of the season on Oct. 16 by stopping all 28 shots against Houston in a 2-0 win.

SOUND THE TRUMPETS: Second-year left winger Philippe Cornet tops the team with 5 goals, including consecutive 2-goal games on Oct. 16 and Oct. 21. Cornet, a healthy scratch in the season opener Oct. 9, has played each of the last 5 games. His 3-game goal streak was snapped on Saturday, but he did score OKC's lone goal in the shootout against Grand Rapids (statistically, shootout goals do not count toward a player's regular goal total). Cornet spent all of last season with OKC, scoring 7 goals in 60 games.

CAPTAIN'S LOG: Barons captain Bryan Helmer is tied (with Teemu Hartikainen) for the second-most points on the team with 5, all of which have been assists on the power play. Helmer's 5 power play assists are tied for the third-most in the league.

ODDS AND ENDS: Teemu Hartikainen has goals in consecutive games...Josh Green's team-best 4-game point streak was halted on Saturday...tonight's game matches affiliates of the 2006 Stanley Cup Final, when Carolina topped Edmonton in a 7-game set...center Milan Kytnar, out all season with a leg injury, was reassigned by Edmonton to ECHL Stockton yesterday.
