
Crunch Come up Short in 5-3 Loss to Penguins

Syracuse, NY - Rookie center Peter Holland scored two goals as the Crunch fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 5-3 tonight at the War Memorial.
The Penguins got on the board first with a power play goal at 9:21 of the first period. Jason Williams snuck behind Crunch goaltender Iiro Tarkki to put the Penguins up 1-0.
Colin McDonald made it 2-0 with 3:47 left in the period. McDonald took a pass from Geoff Walker and beat Tarkki on his right side. Bryan Lerg picked up the second assist on the play.
Shots were 11-10 in favor of the Penguins at the end of the first period.
The Crunch came out fighting in the second period and their efforts paid off at the 9:33, when Holland scored his first goal of the season. Holland was able to put a Dan Sexton rebound past Penguins goaltender Brad Thiessen to make it 2-1 Penguins.
With 4:46 left in the third period, left wing J.F. Jacques forced a turnover behind the Penguins net, which Holland was able to put on net and even the score at 2-2 going into the second intermission.
It didn't take long for the Penguins to regain their lead, scoring just 51 seconds into the final frame. Penguins right wing Nick Peterson beat Tarkki to make it 3-2 Penguins. Peterson was assisted by Brian Gibbons and Jason Williams.
Forward Brandon DeFazio scored just a minute later putting the Penguins up 4-2.
Jacques scored on a shorthanded breakaway to bring the Crunch back within one of the Penguins at 3:55 of the third period. Rick Schofield's outlet pass found Jacques all alone in front of Thiessen.
Eric Tangradi scored on the empty netter with 12 seconds remaining to seal the Penguins' win.
