
RailRiders Defeat Storm Chasers in 14-2 Victory

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders hammered the Omaha Storm Chasers in a 14-2 victory. This was the team's season-high runs scored and the most hits as well with 18 total. Mitch Spence worked an impressive seven innings and Andres Chaparro smoked a grand slam in his five-hit contest. Everyone in the starting nine reached successfully.
SWB got on the board first. Kole Calhoun walked, moved to scoring position on Chaparro's double, and came across thanks to Franchy Cordero's grounder.
Omaha evened in it out the second after CJ Alexander singled and scored on an error.
The RailRiders took the lead back off of Jamie Westbrook's solo shot to go up 2-1.
The Storm Chasers went step for step to tie it with a leadoff homer from Clay Dungan in the third.
SWB got back on top with three runs in the bottom half. Calhoun led off the frame with a long ball of his own for a 3-2 advantage. Chaparro singled to reach and Cordero doubled him home. Rodolfo Duran followed with a double of his own to plate Cordero for a 5-2 lead.
In the fourth, the RailRiders took off and never looked back. Wilmer Difo doubled and Estevan Florial singled to put two on. A three-run homer off the bat of Calhoun put them up 8-2. It was his second long ball of the contest.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added another in the fifth thanks to Florial's sacrifice fly. The home team tacked on one more in the following inning as Cordero was able to score on an error.
Up 10-2 the RailRiders weren't done yet. Difo and Florial singled and Calhoun walked to load the bases. Chaparro smoked a grand slam 101 miles per hour off the bat to bring everyone in. It was the team's first slam of the season and capped off a five-hit day for the rookie.
Mitch Spence (W, 3-2) spun a gem with his 7.0 inning quality start. He allowed just two runs, one earned, on three hits. Spence did not walk a batter and struck out four. Matt Bowman was clean through his two innings of work.
Drew Parrish (L, 1-2) got the start for Omaha going just two innings. He allowed five runs on seven hits. Austin Cox took three innings giving up four runs. Walter Pennington let up five runs, four earned, in his frame and a third. Ryan Weiss tossed 1.2 innings clean.
The RailRiders take on the Storm Chasers in tomorrow's school game contest. MLB Rehabber Luis Severino is scheduled to take on the first pitch at 11:05 PM.
