Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Reading -- The Phillies' 7-4 Eastern League victory Thursday night over the Akron Aeros was their seventh in as many meetings against the slumping Akron club, which fell to 40-38 and saw its franchise record for consecutive losses reach 12 games.
The Phillies (37-44) have won 12 of 16 and are the hottest team in the league.
They sent 11 batters to the plate in a five-run, seven-hit fifth inning that featured doubles by Trent Pratt, Chris Roberson and Ryan Fleming, and a leadoff triple by Ryan Barthelemy.
The Phillies rapped 15 hits -- 40 for the three-game series -- Roberson leading the way with four. Carlos Leon, Pratt and Brian Hitchcox, who added his fourth homer, had two hits apiece. Roberson and Hitchcox had two RBIs apiece.
The Aeros' main answer was leadoff hitter Franklin Gutierrez, who nailed two home runs and accounted for all of the Aeros' runs..
The victory went to Allen Davis (8-4), who, following Tim Worrell's two-inning start, allowed four runs and six hits over seven innings. He struck out four and walked one. Dan Denham (5-6) got the loss.
Worrell, making his second major league rehab appearance with the Phillies, started and threw two perfect innings, with three strikeouts. He threw 22 pitches, 15 for strikes. He said he expects to join the big club on Monday.
