Connecticut Defenders News Release

(Norwich, Conn.) -- Cory Morris held the Navigators without a hit until the 5th inning, and the Bowie offense jumped on Seung Song early, as the Baysox shut out the Navigators, 4-0, in Game One of a scheduled doubleheader at Dodd Stadium tonight. Game Two was fogged out and will be made up at a later date as part of a doubleheader in Bowie, as the Baysox do not return to Dodd Stadium this season.

The Baysox hit for a "team cycle" in the 1st inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by third baseman Tripper Johnson adn an RBI double by second baseman Joey Hammond that but Bowie up 3-0 after one inning. The Baysox would add an insurance run in the 5th on an RBI double by Brandon Fahey. That was more than enough runs for Bowie starter Cory Morris (5-2), as he held Norwich without a hit through 4.2 innings, and ended up going five shutout innings (in which was a seven-inning game due to the scheduled doubleheader) for the win, giving up two hits, walking two and striking out eight. Song (0-2) had his toughest outing in a Norwich uniform and took the loss.

The Navigators will travel to Portland tomorrow for their shortest road trip of the season, a three-game set against the Sea Dogs over the weekend. Lefty Brian Burres will get the start for Norwich and he will be opposed by Portland righty David Pauley. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm.
