June 30, 2005 - Eastern League (EL1)
Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ)- Charlie Isaacson and Justin Pope combined on a six-hit shutout as Trenton downed New Hampshire, 4-0, on Thursday night. It was the seventh shutout of the season for the Thunder, which ties them for the Eastern League lead.
The win was the 18th of the month for the Thunder (44-36), which sets a new franchise record for win in June. The 1998 and 2001 Thunder clubs registered 17 wins in June in those years.
Isaacson (5-2) scattered five hits over 6 2/3 innings for the win. He had seven strikeouts with just two walks. Pope came on in the 7th Inning to get Trenton out of a bases-loaded jam. New Hampshire (40-38) had just six singles in the game, with only two bases runners moving into scoring position. Pope went the final 2 1/3 innings for his 17th save.
Trenton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning. CF Kevin Thompson homered off Fisher Cats starter Josh Banks. It was the 12th time that Thompson had led off a game with a homer in a Thunder uniform over the last three seasons. The lead ran to 2-0 with an unearned run in the 3rd Inning as 1B Shelley Duncan scored on an error by New Hampshire SS Raul Tablado. The Thunder got their insurance in the 6th Inning thanks to a two-out, two-run double by LF Eric Crozier.
Trenton begins a series in Harrisburg, PA on Friday at 6:35 PM. Jon Skaggs 92-7, 6.57) starts for the Thunder against the Senators' Rich Rundles (5-5, 3.67).
