
Three Fisher Cats named All-Stars

Manchester, NH- Fisher Cats RHP Josh Banks, RHP Lee Gronkiewicz, and 2B Ryan Roberts were named as 2005 Eastern League All-Stars today. The 2005 Eastern League All-Star Game will feature the stars of the Northern Division taking on the Soutern Division All-Stars. Each roster consists of 24 players. The game will be played at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine, home of the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, on Wednesday, July 13th at 7:00 PM.
Banks, 22, was a 2nd round pick of the Blue Jays in the 2003 draft out of Florida International. He is 7-5 with a 4.32 ERA in 15 starts with the Fisher Cats this season. He has 74 strikeouts and just 7 walks in 81.1 innings pitched.
Gronkiewicz, 26, was selected in the Minor League Rule 5 draft by the Blue Jays in December 2004. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Indians in June 2001. He is 1-0 with 23 saves and a 0.79 ERA in 35 appearances out of the bullpen for New Hampshire this season. He is a perfect 23-for-23 in save opportunities and is tied for the Eastern League lead in saves. His 35 appearances is an Eastern League high. He has converted 33 straight saves dating back to last season with the Akron Aeros, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.
Roberts, 24, was selected by Toronto in the 18th round of the 2003 draft out of the University of Texas-Arlington. He joined the Fisher Cats on May 23 after beginning the season with the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Single-A Florida State League. He is hitting .250 with 8 HR and 27 RBI in 32 games with New Hampshire this year. He was hitting .287 with 9 HR and 35 RBI with Dunedin at the time of his promotion. His combined numbers give him 17 home runs and 62 RBI this year. He had a franchise record 11 game RBI streak June 1 through June 12.
