
2005 Hannaford Eastern League All-Star rosters announced

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs in conjunction with the Eastern League have announced the rosters for the 2005 Hannaford Eastern League All-Star Game to played at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine on Wednesday, July 13th at 7:00 PM.
The 2005 Hannaford Eastern League All-Star Game will feature the stars of the Northern Division taking on the Southern Division All-Stars. Each roster consists of 24 players. Every Eastern League team is represented by at least three players including at least one position player and one pitcher. Fans at each of the 12 Eastern League ballparks were allowed to vote for one position player and one pitcher to represent their team through Rite Aid Fan Balloting. The remainder of the team was selected through voting by media representatives, field managers, and league officials.
The top prospects of the league will be featured in the mid-summer classic including 11 Top-10 prospects by Baseball America and four 2005 MLB Futures Game participants. Such stars include Altoona's Tom Gorzelanny (Pittsburgh's # 5 prospect), Binghamton's Yusmeiro Petit (New York's # 2 prospect), Bowie's Tripper Johnson (Baltimore's # 8 prospect), Erie's Joel Zumaya (Detroit's # 4 prospect), New Hampshire's Josh Banks (Toronto's # 9 prospect), Norwich's Merkin Valdez (San Francisco's # 2 prospect), Portland's Hanley Ramirez (Boston's # 1 prospect), Brandon Moss (Boston's # 2 prospect), Jon Papelbon (Boston's # 3 prospect), & Jon Lester (Boston's # 4 prospect), and Reading's Michael Bourn (Philadelphia's # 5 prospect). In addition Ramirez, Petit, Valdez, and Zumaya will be participating in the 2005 XM Satellite Futures Game in Detroit on Sunday, July 10th.
The Portland Sea Dogs coaching staff consisting of manager Todd Claus, pitching coach Fernando Arroyo, hitting coach Russ Morman, and trainer Masai Takahashi will serve as the coaching staff for the Northern Division squad. Todd Claus will also serve as a coach in the XM Satellite Futures Game in Detroit. As a result of winning the 2004 Southern Division title the Altoona Curve coaching staff consisting of manager Tony Beasley, pitching coach Jeff Andrews, hitting coach Matt Winters, and trainer Jason Palmer will coach the Southern Division All-Stars. The umpires for the event include David Uyl, Andy Vincent, Jake Uhlenhopp, and Jon Merry.
The 2005 Hannaford Eastern League All-Star Game will be televised throughout New England on the New England Sports Network (NESN). Minor League Baseball.com will also provide live video and audio streaming of the event.
