THE SHOUP SCOOP: TEAM NEWS & NOTES

THE RESULTS ARE IN...: ...And three members of the Bowie Baysox will travel to Portland for the 2005 Hannaford Eastern League All-Star Game on July 13. 3B Tripper Johnson, RHP Cory Morris, and LHP Scott Rice were named to the Southern Division squad on Thursday. Johnson and Rice made the team because they were the leading vote-getters in Rite Aid Fan Selection balloting at Prince George's Stadium. Johnson, 23, has been the Baysox' most consistent hitter this season, batting .275 with 7 homers and a team-high 41 RBI. He also leads the league in fielding percentage at his position. Morris, 26, is 4-2 on the season, but his mediocre record belies what has been a strong season. He is seventh in the league with a 2.72 ERA and among the top ten in the circuit with 78 strikeouts. Rice, 23, has been one of Bowie's best relievers this season, working to a 1.74 ERA while compiling a 4-1 record. This will be Rice's second straight trip to the EL All-Star Game.

STANDINGS UPDATE: The Baysox won the opener of their three-game series in Norwich, 7-3, to pull within one game of .500. The Baysox remain in fourth place in the Southern Division and are 4 games behind Erie and Altoona for first place.

MOVES: RHP Jason Grimsley will be with the Baysox through at least the beginning of next week on a rehab assignment. Grimsley, who had Tommy John surgery in October, picked up the win in relief of Eric DuBose in the Baysox' victory at Norwich on Tuesday. On Wednesday the Baysox added RHP David Manning to the roster. Manning, a 13-year veteran of professional baseball, had been with the Campeche Pirates of the Mexican League. Meanwhile, LHP John Parrish was placed on the Disabled List with soreness in his right forearm.

POND POUNDS THE BALL: OF/1B Simon Pond has been on a tear of late, having hit safely in 18 of his last 20 games. He is batting .378 over that span with 6 home runs and 14 RBI. Pond now leads the Baysox in both average (.283) and home run
