WELL THAT HAPPENED: The Power concluded their series in Lexington on Monday evening. West Virginia won the completion of Sunday's doubleheader game one that had been suspended by rain by a 5-3 final. Kyle McPherson and Ryan Kelly combined to toss five innings of one-hit ball once play was resumed. Jarek Cunningham and Jose Hernandez drove in runs in Monday's portion of the game. The Legends won the contest originally scheduled for August 16 by a 7-1 score. Brett Lorin took the loss for the Power.
SEEING THE SIGHTS: West Virginia trails the all-time series against the Tourists 21-23, but have taken five of eight this season. The Power are 11-12 since 2005 at Appalachian Power Park against the Tourists, and have gone 10-11 on the road. These clubs met in Charleston on the opening weekend of the home schedule and played three games of a four game series, with the April 19 contest getting postponed due to unplayable grounds. That game was made up in Asheville as part of a June 6 twinbill.
LEAGUE LEADERS: West Virginia is tied with Asheville for a league-best nine wins this month despite the fact that the Power hold the league's second highest August ERA at 4.86. The Power won nine games in 21 April chances and only won eight times in 26 games during June. West Virginia's best month was a 15 win and 15 loss effort in May.
WALK OF LIFE: Evan Chambers leads the South Atlantic League with 87 walks and ranks fifth across all of Minor League Baseball, trailing only Conner Crumbliss of Kane County (101), Lake Elsinore's Vincent Belnome (92), West Michigan's Jamie Johnson (89), and Kila Ki'aihue of Omaha (88).
MUST LOVE LEXINGTON: Elevys Gonzalez and Jesus Brito both hit home runs last Thursday against Legends pitchers, and each had not hit a home run since a previous series with Lexington. Gonzalez's only other home run this season came on May 26 at Appalachian Power Park off of Tanner Bushue, while Brito had not hit a home run since July 12 off of Bushue.
BUCCO BOUNTY: The Pittsburgh Pirates signed their first and second round draft choices Jameson Tallion and Stetson Allie late Monday night. There is no public word as of yet where or when either player will start their professional careers, although Pirates general manager has suggested that neither will pitch until the instructional leagues this fall.
POWER POINTS: Quinton Miller notched his first quality start of the season in last Wednesday's win on his fifth try... Elevys Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to six games in Monday's continued game, then went 0-2 in the nightcap to see the streak snapped. During the six-game run, Gonzalez hit .454 and drove in nine runs...
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh bested Florida at PNC Park 7-1. Andrew McCutchen hit his tenth home run, while Garrett Jones and Pedro alvarez drove in three runs each.. Indianapolis lost 11-4 to Syracuse... Altoona did not play... Bradenton beat down Palm Beach 9-1 ... State College did not play due to the NYPL All-Star break. The Spikes put
