Series Preview

The Savannah Sand Gnats conclude their longest homestand of the year with four games against their rival Augusta GreenJackets beginning tonight. Augusta heads to Savannah fresh off a five-game sweep in Rome. Overall, Augusta has won seven of eight games. After their doubleheader sweeep on Monday, the Gnats have won three games in a row and seven of their last nine games. The GreenJackets currently sit two and a half games the Greenville Drive for first place in the SAL Southern Division with 20 games to play in the second half. Greenville tied Lakewood 2-2 on August 5th, in a game that is not yet reflected in the League standings. The Gnats will face the Second Half Champion in the first round of the playoffs.

Savannah is 8-12 against Augusta this year, 3-5 at home and 5-7 on the road. This four-game set will conclude the season series between the two teams. The Gnats and GreenJackets are two of the top teams in preventing runs from scoring. Savannah has allowed the fewest runs in the SAL (443) and has the best ERA (2.89) while the GreenJackets have allowed the third-fewest runs (498) and are fifth in the League with a 3.60 ERA.
