Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Savannah, GA - Chris Heston fired seven scoreless innings to win back-to-back starts for the first time all season as the Augusta GreenJackets blanked the Savannah Sand Gnats by a 1-0 score on Tuesday night.
The lone Augusta run of the game came in the eighth inning when Ryan Lollis tripled to open the frame. Ydwin Villegas singled to score Lollis - the only time in the game the Jackets put together back-to-back hits - and give the GreenJackets a 1-0 advantage.
Both Heston and Savannah starter Armando Rodriguez took no-hitters into the sixth inning and didn't allow a baserunner until the 15th hitter each faced. The no-hitters were also both broken up with two outs in the sixth.
Heston (5-11) fired 7.1 scoreless innings of two-hit baseball without walking anyone and with eight strikeouts. Rodriguez (6-9) emerged as the tough-luck loser, allowing the lone run of the game in the eighth on just four hits and two walks while striking out eight. Both starters equaled season-highs in the strikeout category.
The GreenJackets have now won six in a row, equaling their longest winning streak of the year, and have won eight of their last nine. Tuesday's win was Augusta's 11th shutout victory of the season and their sixth against the Sand Gnats. All four 1-0 games the GreenJackets have been involved in this season have been wins against Savannah.
Augusta sends Zack Wheeler (2-3, 3.89) to the mound in an attempt to set a new season-long winning streak on Wednesday against Savannah lefty Darin Gorski (5-7, 3.92). First pitch from Savannah will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com .
