Tourists, Great Beginnings to Host Roy Williams Bobblehead Night
August 17, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release
The Asheville Tourists and Great Beginnings Pediatric and Adolescent Dentistry will salute one of Western North Carolina's favorite sons with Roy Williams Bobblehead Night at McCormick Field on Saturday, August 21, at 7:05 p.m. when the Tourists host the Savannah Sand Gnats.
The first 1,000 fans through the McCormick Field gates will receive a bobblehead doll of Williams, the current head basketball coach at the University of North Carolina who attended T.C. Roberson High School and began his coaching career at Owen High School. The gates will open at 6 p.m., with season-ticket holders able to enter the ballpark beginning at 5:30 p.m. Williams, unfortunately, will not be able to attend the game.
Great Beginnings is a long-time sponsor of the Tourists. Specializing in pediatric and adolescent dentistry, the group is headed by Dr. Bill Chambers, who played basketball at the University of North Carolina and has more than 30 years of serving the dental needs of Western North Carolina children. Dr. Chambers is joined by fellow dentists Angela Baechtold, Ryan Haldeman and Doug Pratt, with two convenient offices located in Asheville, just off Hendersonville Road on Yorkshire Street, and in Waynesville.
"The Tourists' relationship with Great Beginnings could not dovetail more perfectly," said Tourists general manager Larry Hawkins. "Kids and families are the backbone of both of our businesses. Great Beginnings and the Tourists have become part of the fabric of our community over the past several decades, and by sponsoring a Roy Williams bobblehead night, we feel like we're able to make our community even more close-knit."
Roy Williams Bobblehead Night will mark the opener of a four-game series against the Savannah Sand Gnats that includes baseball games through Tuesday, August 24. After a four-game stint in Greenville, the Tourists will host their final homestand of the regular season from August 30-September 2 against the Hickory Crawdads. For tickets or for more information, call the Tourists front office at (828) 258-0428.
