Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs are putting a paw towards the 2011 season as the 2010 campaign comes to an end. Closing in on another Top-5 Charleston professional baseball attendance record in 2010 with several home games still to play, the RiverDogs have released their 2011 schedule, with opening day on Friday, April 15.
The season begins on Thursday, April 7 with an eight-game road trip to Lexington and Greenville, marking just the third time in 10 years the team has opened the season on the road.
The team returns to The Joe for an opening homestand that runs from Friday, April 15 through Saturday, April 23, giving you nine chances for you to "Be Your Own Fan!" as only the RiverDogs can as they host the Rome Braves for four games, then the Greenville Drive for a five-game set.
Fans of baseball in the South and raucous rivalries are in for a treat with the opening homestand as it features both the Single-A affiliates of the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Red Sox. Fans will get to see the future stars of Turner Field right here at Riley Park starting on a fun-filled Friday night.
Whether it is the off-the-wall promotions or just relaxing on the weekend that you are a fan of, all RiverDogs faithful will have fun this upcoming season as the schedule features 11 Thursday, Friday and Saturday night games. The schedule is highlighted with the team playing at The Joe on the 4 th of July for the second year in a row and closing the season out at home on Labor Day weekend.
The hottest rivalry in Major League Baseball takes center field at Riley Park when the Greenville Drive come to town with Yankees vs. Red Sox for three series. The Savannah Sand Gnats, Rome Braves, Augusta GreenJackets and Asheville Tourists come to the Holy City for a pair of homestands each during the 70-home game campaign.
Five other South Atlantic League Northern Division teams will play at The Joe as the RiverDogs welcome the Power, BlueClaws, the Hickory Crawdads, Kannapolis Intimidators and Lexington Legends for multiple games while the RiverDogs conclude the season at home over Labor Day weekend as they host the Asheville Tourists for five games.
While the team opens the season with just nine games at home in April, the RiverDogs return to Riley Park with 15 home games in both May and June and 14 in July. The team looks to close out the year on a winning streak, making the most of the bark at Riley Park and the "Be Your Own Fan!" home field advantage with 17 home games in August-September - the most of any month.
Fans of baseball in the Holy City will have two reasons to cheer from April 22-23 and May 6-8, as the RiverDogs have five double headers with the 2010 Southern Conference regular season champion Citadel Bulldogs.
