Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers got their post-Christmas break schedule off to a good start as they defeated the Providence Bruins 2-0 on Friday night at Webster Bank Arena.
Kevin Poulin, coming back after a one game call up to the Islanders, made 34 saves to pick up his second shutout of the season, both of them coming at Webster Bank Arena against the Providence Bruins.
The game remained scoreless through two periods as each team, playing for the first time in six days, worked to get their games back in form after the holiday break.
Alan Quine got the Sound Tigers on the board first just over a minute into the third period as he tipped a centering feed from Harry Zolnierczyk past Bruins goalie Malcolm Subban to make it 1-0. Just two minutes later, Sebastian Collberg was able to extend the lead for Bridgeport. Collberg was able to get behind the Bruins defense and used a nifty move to backhand the puck into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Poulin was spectacular all game long, including robbing one Bruins player on the doorstep with a kick save and controlling rebounds extremely well all night long. The netminder earned the number one star of the game as he improved his record to 10-6-4 on the year and pick his first win since December 6 th against Lehigh Valley. Malcolm Subban made 23 saves in the loss as his record fell to 6-7-1 on the season.
Colin McDonald earned an assist on the Collberg goal and now leads the team in points per game at 0.92. Collberg was named the second star of the night while Alan Quine earned the third star.
The Sound will begin a three game road trip on Saturday night as they head to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to take on the Penguins at 7:05 p.m. Bridgeport returns to Webster Bank Arena in 2015 on Saturday, January 3 rd at 7:00 p.m. as they host the Albany Devils.
Notes: With his assist, Harry Zolnierczyk took over the team lead in points with 25... The Sound Tigers finished 0-for-5 on the power play... The Bruins have not scored a goal against the Sound Tigers this season at Webster Bank Arena, taking 67 shots in the two games... Poulin's last two wins at home have been the two shutouts against the Bruins.
