December 26, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
SYRACUSE, NY -- The Albany Devils came within 1:27 of ending the Syracuse Crunch's nine-game winning streak. Instead Joey Mormina scored the tying goal in regulation and Vladislav Namestnikov netted the winner in overtime for a 3-2 Syracuse win Friday at Onondaga County War Memorial Arena.
Scott Wedgewood tied a career high with 34 saves, including denying Nikita Nesterov on a penalty shot at 11:35 of the second. Offensively, Brandon Burlon netted his third goal of the season and Reid Boucher potted his eighth tally. Additionally, Boucher extended his point streak to five games (4g-2a) and his goal streak to three games.
Mike Blunden scored Syracuse's first tally. In goal, Andrei Vasilevskiy had 31 stops.
The Devils appeared to be heading to their third win in four games when Boucher gave Albany a 2-1 advantage at 1:27 of the third period. The Devils winger threw the puck from the red line toward the Syracuse goal. The puck deflected off Vasilevskiy's mask and landed in the slot. As Vasilveskiy searched for the puck, Boucher buried it into a gaping net.
Mormina's tying goal came 17 minutes later: Jonathan Marchessault forced a turnover and found Mormina for a one-timer across the slot at 18:33.
Once in overtime, Marchessault setup Namestnikov at 4:16 while playing three-on-three.
The decision moved Albany to 13-10-2-4, while Syracuse improved to 20-7-3-0.
