Penguins Sign McGrath and Torquato to PTOs

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forwards Patrick McGrath and Zack Torquato to professional tryout agreements (PTO).

McGrath, 21, is in his second season with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), having collected two goals, one assist and 69 penalty minutes in 20 games. During the 2013-14 season, he registered one assist and 176 penalty minutes over 45 appearances for the Nailers.

The Shavertown, Pennsylvania-native skated in 72 games for the Prince Edward Island Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2011-13, gathering two points (1G-1A) and 229 penalty minutes.

Torquato joins Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the second time this season. The 25-year-old signed a PTO with the Penguins on Oct. 15 and went on to notch one goal and 13 penalty minutes in eight contests. Torquato has compiled 17 points (7G-10A) in 17 games this season with Wheeling.

Torquato recorded two goals, five assists and 22 penalty minutes in 18 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last year. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario-native also appeared in 44 games for the Nailers, ranking second on the squad with 52 points (14G-38A) and 38 assists.

A former sixth-round selection (178th overall) of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2007 NHL Draft, Torquato has skated in 52 American Hockey League games, posting nine points (4G-5A) and 47 penalty minutes with Grand Rapids, Rockford and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The fifth-year pro has totaled 53 goals, 127 assists and 242 penalty minutes in 222 ECHL contests with Idaho, Toledo and Wheeling.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is back on home ice on Saturday, Dec. 27 against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:05 p.m. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a Penguins Beverage Koozie, courtesy of Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The Penguins close out the weekend versus the Norfolk Admirals on Sunday, Dec. 28 at 4:05 p.m.
