Polanco to Return to Indy for Second Rehab Stint

INDIANAPOLIS - Today the Pittsburgh Pirates informed the Indianapolis Indians that outfielder Gregory Polanco will rejoin the Triple-A club for a second rehab assignment beginning Thursday, July 4.

Polanco, 27, began his first rehab assignment with the Indians on April 13 while recovering from left shoulder surgery. In Indy, he hit .300 (6-for-20) with five RBI through five games. He returned to Pittsburgh on April 22 and held a .242 average (37-for-153) with 15 extra-base hits and 17 RBI in 42 games. Six of his 15 extra-base knocks went as home runs.

Polanco owns a .252 average (602-for-2,390) with 78 home runs, 138 doubles, 304 RBI and 81 stolen bases in 666 career major league games. During his career, he has participated in the MLB Futures Game and the 2017 World Baseball Classic, the latter of which he earned All-Tournament team honors.

Polanco originally signed with the Pirates as a non-drafted free agent on March 25, 2009 out of San Domingo, D.R.
