Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (32-53) defeated the Indianapolis Indians (42-41) by a score of 7-6 on Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field. The victory was the fourth in their last five games and also secured back-to-back series wins for the first time this season.

For the 33rd time in 44 games at Louisville Slugger Field this season, there were runs scored in the first inning, this time by both teams. After three singles to lead off the game and load the bases, and a ground out to short by Will Craig to plate Indy's first run of the game, Trayvon Robinson stroked a two-run double over the head of Bats' center fielder Brian O'Grady to give the Indians an early 3-0 lead. However, Louisville would quickly bounce back in the bottom half thanks to a two-run, laser-beam homerun from Aristides Aquino, his 19th of the season, cutting the lead to 3-2.

After cruising through the top of the second inning, Bats' starter Keury Mella (5-8, 5.15) would decide to take matters into his own hands at the plate. With the bases loaded and a full count, Mella sent the payoff pitch sailing to deep center field, bouncing against the wall, and clearing the bases to give the Bats a lead they would not relinquish.

Mella would work 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits, four earned runs, and four strikeouts with three offensive RBIs as the cherry on top of his fifth win of the season. Yefry Ramirez (1-4, 5.06) received the loss after allowing five earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and four walks across 3.1 innings. Joe Mantiply would also be called on in the eighth inning to record one out before closing the game out in the ninth to record his first save of the year for the Bats.

The Bats will look to stay hot as they hit the road immediately following tonight's game and make their way to Columbus to take on the Cleveland Indians' Triple-A affiliate Clippers tomorrow night in the first of a four game series with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Lucas Sims (4-0, 5.24) will be on the hill for the Bats and will try to remain unbeaten heading into the All-Star break, while righty Mitch Talbot (2-0, 5.70) will get the ball for the Clippers.
