Toledo, OH - The Toledo Mud Hens came up short in extra innings on Wednesday against the Columbus Clippers at Fifth Third Field by a score of 6-5.

In the top of the tenth, the Clippers struck for two runs to give them the lead in extras. The Mud Hens gave a hard push, scoring one in the bottom half, but it wasn't enough.

For Columbus, Greg Allen led off the game with a triple to center field, but Toledo's starting pitcher Matt Hall was able to get the next three batters out, including one via strikeout to end the top of the first.

Toledo also logged their first hit of the game in the bottom of the first. With two outs in the inning, Willi Castro knocked a single to right field, but a strikeout would end the inning.

In the second inning, after allowing a single to start the inning, Hall went on to strikeout the next three batters, bringing his total to four. Hall would exit prior to the start of the third inning, being replaced by Spenser Watkins. Hall went two innings, totaling four strikeouts and allowing two hits. In Watkins' first inning, he also struck out two batters, sending Columbus down in order.

To begin the third inning, Daniel Johnson registered a single to right field to give Columbus a baserunner, however Johnson would be caught stealing between second and third with a Watkins step-off that was scored 1-4-3-6. After a groundout, Ryan Flaherty would single to center before Trayce Thompson put a ball off the scoreboard in left field for a two-run home run, his 21st of the season. Watkins would then tally his third strikeout of the game, moving to the bottom of the fourth with the score 2-0.

For the Hens half, Dawel Lugo reached on a fielding error to start the bottom of the fourth. Lugo would move up to third on a double to left field by Castro, his second hit of the game. Lugo would then score on a Mikie Mahtook groundball to second base with Castro moving up to third. A Dustin Peterson double over the left fielder's head would score Castro to tie the game at 2-2.

Columbus would see a fly out to start the fifth inning followed by a double off the left-center wall by Mark Mathias. Mathias would move up to third on a groundball, but Watkins would tally another strikeout to end the half of the inning.

Toledo would also log a hit in the fifth, by the way of a Jacob Robson single, but that would be all the action for the half of the inning.

To open the bottom of the sixth inning, Castro logged his third hit of the game, coming as a bloop single to left field. Mahtook would rip a line drive to left field, giving Toledo runners at second and third with no outs. Peterson would single through the right side of the infield, scoring Castro to give Toledo the lead.

The Clippers then made a change on the mound, calling on Argenis Angulo to replace the Columbus starter Michael Peoples. A wild pitch by Angulo would allow Mahtook to score, increasing the Toledo lead. Daz Cameron would then walk and steal second to put two runners in scoring position for the Hens, but a pop up would end the inning. Peoples final line would be 5.1 innings, seven hits, four runs, three earned and four strikeouts.

In the top of the seventh, Adam Rosales singled for Columbus with one out followed by a double by Mathias to left field, just missing the outstretched glove of Robson. Rosales scored on the Mathias double, cutting the lead to 4-3.

Neil Ramirez entered the game for Columbus at the start of the bottom of the seventh. Angulo walked one, struck out one and had one wild pitch over his two-thirds of an inning.

The Hens also made a pitching change in the seventh with Trevor Rosenthal entering for Watkins. Watkins tossed five innings for Toledo, striking out five while allowing three runs on six hits. After striking out the first two batters, Rosenthal gave up a home run to Brandon Barnes, tying the game at four. Flaherty would then walk before Rosenthal would log another strikeout to end the inning.

At the start of the bottom of the eighth, James Hoyt entered to pitch for the Clippers. Ramirez went one inning, striking out two while not allowing a runner. After a fly out, Peterson would reach base for the third time in the game, this time via walk. Danny Woodrow would have a hard hit single up the middle move Peterson to third, giving Toledo runners at the corners with one out. Woodrow would steal second to put two runners in scoring position. However, two strikeouts would end the inning with the score still tied.

At the top of the ninth, John Schreiber entered to pitch for Toledo. Rosenthal struck out three while giving up a home run during his one inning of work. Schreiber would send down Columbus in order, including two strikeouts in the ninth.

The Clippers also made a pitching change in the ninth, putting in Rob Kaminsky for Hoyt who gave up one hit while walking another and striking out two over his one inning.

In extra innings, Mathias began at second for Columbus with the International League extra innings rule. First up, Allen walked to put two on for the Clippers. Schreiber would battle back to strike out the next two batters before Barnes walked to load the bases. Flaherty would also walk, bringing in Mathias to give Columbus the lead. A wild pitch would also bring in Allen, increasing the lead, 6-4.

In the bottom of the tenth, Jon Edwards came on to pitch for Columbus. Kaminsky struck out two over his inning while not allowing a base runner.
