Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Emilio Bonifacio and Jake Cronenworth launched back-to-back homers in the bottom of the seventh inning to help deliver the Bulls a 3-2 victory over the Charlotte Knights Wednesday at the DBAP in front of a paid attendance of 10,067. Ricardo Pinto (5-3) recorded the victory for the Bulls, while Jordan Guerrero (2-7) suffered the loss for the Knights as Durham earned the win in the rubber match of the three-game set.
Dalton Kelly struck first for the Bulls, with a deep solo home run to right field to take a 1-0 lead in the third inning. The lead was maintained until the sixth inning, when the Knights brought runners to the corners and drove in one on an RBI sacrifice fly by Yermin Mercedes to tie the game at 1-1.
The top of the seventh inning provided the Knights an edge, thanks to a solo home run by Ryan Goins. That lead was quick to fall apart though, as Bonifacio and Cronenworth tallied back-to-back homers, each to center field, to give Durham a 3-2 lead.
The Bulls pieced together a strong night from the pitching staff, with Vidal Nuno opening with 1.2 shutout innings before giving way to Pinto, who allowed just two runs over 5.1 innings of relief, walking three and striking out six. Hoby Milner and Ian Gibaut combined to finish off the win, with Gibaut picking up his fourth save of the season.
The Bulls will begin a five-game series over the course of four days starting Thursday in Gwinnett. The series will mark their last one before the start of the International League's All-Star break, beginning on Monday, June 8.
