Indianapolis Indians News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY - Trayvon Robinson was a home run shy of the cycle and Jason Martin collected his fifth multi-hit performance in eight games, but two errors and Indians pitching couldn't hold together a lead in a 7-6 series finale loss to the Louisville Bats.
Robinson's 3-for-3 performance extended his hitting streak to a season-high seven games and was his second three-hit game of the road trip, the last coming in the finale against Gwinnett on Sunday.
The Indians (42-41) offense turned up the heat right out of the gate for the first time in eight games. Three straight singles opened up the game, and with one out and already a 1-0 lead, Robinson began his night with a two-run double to extend the score.
Five pitches into his outing, starter Dario Agrazal hit the first batter he saw, handing away a free base before the Bats even got started. With two outs, Aristides Aquino sent a fly ball over the wall in right-center field to cut the deficit, 3-2. Agrazal's day ended after one inning of work, with two hits and the hit batter being the only notes on his line.
The Bats (32-53) continued to take advantage of Indy's pitching. A leadoff walk and two straight singles loaded the bases with the pitcher up. Keury Mella cleared the bases with his third hit - his second for extra bases - against Indians pitching this season to give Louisville the lead, 5-3. Two more walks and a one-out single plated another in the third to bury Indy even further.
The teams traded runs in the fifth inning, leaving the score 7-4. Elmore opened up the top half with a double and was brought in by Martin after moving to third on a sacrifice bunt. Aquino led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk and scored after stealing second, moving to third on a wild pitch and crossing home on a throwing error by Steven Baron.
Indy tried for a rally in the eighth. Two consecutive walks sent Darnell Sweeney to the plate with two outs, and on the first pitch he shot a fly ball to center field that dropped in for a double and scored two, but the Tribe offense couldn't finish it off.
Yefry Ramirez (L, 1-4) came in for 3.1 innings in relief of Agrazal and collected seven strikeouts, but also gave up five runs on six hits and four walks. Luis Escobar and Sean Keselica finished the game and combined for seven strikeouts of their own.
Keury Mella (W, 5-8) went 5.2 innings and gave up four of the Tribe's runs on eight hits. Joe Mantiply entered the game and earned his first save of the season on four outs.
The Indians return home tomorrow for the holiday weekend, opening up a five-game set with Toledo in a 6:15 p.m. ET start on July 4.
