Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Rockford, IL - The Traverse City Pit Spitters drop to a 12-4 record after a 2-1 loss to the Rockford Rivets this evening, splitting the series. The pitching showed out despite the constant rain, giving up two runs on four hits.
Tonight, the Traverse City pitching staff battled their way through the elements in front of the away crowd as they threw five scoreless innings before giving up their first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. After an offensive day at the plate for the Pit Spitters in Monday evening's game, the pitching kept the team in it, giving up two runs on four hits through nine innings.
The Rivets saw their first scoring opportunity in the bottom of the fourth with bases loaded and two outs until Ethan Foley struck out John Malcom to escape the jam. With bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth with two outs, Braden Duhon singled bringing around two runs, giving the Rivets their first lead of the day 2-0. Down to their final two outs of the game, Colin Summerhill legged out an infield single to bring in his brother Brendan, to make it a 2-1 game. On the same play, Glenn Miller slipped rounding third and was tagged out for the second out.
The Pit Spitters fall to 12-4 on the season, as the Rivets improve to 10-6. Pit Spitters starter Ethan Foley (0-1) records his third start of the season, allowing one hit, walking two, and striking out three in four innings. Pit Spitters reliver, Nico Saldias (0-1) comes out of the bullpen throwing an inning and two thirds, walking three, giving up two runs and striking out two batters. Anthony Ramirez (0-0) then came in relief for Saldias, throwing an inning and a third of one hit ball striking out two batters. Evan Waters (0-0) came in to hold off the Rivets for the bottom of the eighth inning striking out two and walking one. After the runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch, Cole Prout struck out swinging to end the game.
