Dogs Fall to Stingers
June 13, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Mankato MoonDogs News Release
The MoonDogs looked to continue the offensive outburst they had the night before against the now top of Plains Willmar Stingers.
Dustin Crenshaw started things out for the MoonDogs getting walked continuing his dominance at the plate he has had since joining up with the team. Ari Armas was next and placed one in the gap for a single to keep things moving for the MoonDogs.
Ty Rumsey would try and push in a run for the MoonDogs with a chopper at the mound that would cause Marcos Herrand to lose his glove but with great instinct grabbed the ball and sent the ball home to get Crenshaw out. With runners on the corners with two outs the MoonDogs were not able to capitalize on a half-inning that they would need against one of the top offenses in the league.
Willmar would show the power of their offense that is one of the most potent in the league, scoring two runs and stranding two on base. The score would go unchanged until the bottom of the third inning. Willmar would string together a run of hits and drive in another two runs widening the lead to 4-0.
During the top of the fifth the MoonDogs would strike when a groundout by Armas would push in Angelo Aleman to help cut the lead to three. Willmar would not take long to get that run back as they would apply pressure in their half of the fifth with back-to-back doubles by Drey Dirksen and Scott Anderson.
Willmar would continue its scoring streak putting one up in the sixth. With time running out the MoonDogs would look to mount a rally in the seventh. Willmar would say no to that going three up three down. The MoonDogs would find themselves in trouble as the bases would be loaded with no outs. Six runs would come across the plate as the Stingers would have 11 batters total come to the plate giving the Stingers a sizeable 12-1 lead.
With an uphill battle ahead of them the MoonDogs took the field ready to strike. Brendan Hord would smoke one deep over the left field wall chipping away at the Stinger lead. Willmar would shut it down and hold the MoonDogs to just one run.
Willmar would throw on 2 more security runs giving the MoonDogs an uphill battle if they want to come back in the ninth.
The MoonDogs would not be to mount a comeback in the ninth falling to the Stingers 14-2. The MoonDogs will play Willmar tomorrow at ISG Field with the first pitch at 6:35 P.M.
