Kevin Fitzer Clutch Homer Completes Comeback, Stingers Defeat MoonDogs 8-7 for Seven Straight Wins
June 13, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Willmar Stingers News Release
The Willmar Stingers remained red hot on Tuesday with arguably the most nail-biting win yet with an 8-7 win over the Mankato MoonDogs.
While the game would end in comeback fashion, it was first the MoonDogs who needed one of their own.
The Stingers got off to a hot start with a Jack Hines double netting one in the first inning before adding four more runs in the second.
MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game Kevin Fitzer had the big hit in that inning with a run-scoring double and that won't be the only hit he picks up with a chance to score runs.
The MoonDogs would make their way back into the game starting in the third as Kip Fougerousse would homer to score two runs and Max Willians would hit a solo shot a few batters later.
A Stone Miyao single in the next inning would get back one of those runs for the Stingers to make it a 6-3 lead but it wouldn't last long.
Mankato would have another three-run inning in the fifth as Brendan Hord would hit his second home-run of the series to tie it up.
The MoonDogs would keep their momentum going in the seventh with a Nolan Tichy single to give them their first lead of the game.
Willmar, looking to keep its six-game winning streak going, would be down to its final strike with Kasten Furr at third and Fitzer at the plate.
A wild pitch would score Furr and tie the game and a few pitches later, Fitzer broke that tie with a solo shot.
Hemponix Relief Pitcher of the Game Tyler Bryan would set the MoonDogs down in the bottom half of the night to complete the series sweep and our seventh straight win.
